I'm starting a blog for #Blaugust which is a writing challenge I just found earlier this month. It means I will have to plan out navigation when I get a chance and decide if I want to make a particular template. I'm pretty happy with the simplicity of my first post. It is nice to write without thinking of monetizing, SEOing it, feeding it to Google, and all of the other things that make writing work, rather than fun. I'm throwing this out into the world for enjoyment. It feels great.

I love taking pictures. I snap pics of birds, rabbits, family members, and various things I see in the world around me.

I have always loved the idea of communicating via computer since I was a kid. I discovered a local BBS, then moved to the internet in college (yay VAX!) where I watched it grow from an academic system to a way for people around the world to connect with each other. Mastodon reminds me of the early days of social media where the possibilities are unlimited.
I also am fascinated by radio. I have two radio licenses that I don't use very much, though. Lately, I have been playing around with monitoring aircraft data radio using three software defined radios (SDR). I love travel and airplanes, so it's fun to know what all the planes are doing as they pass over on their way around the country and the world. The feed location displayed for where my antenna is located is randomized within my region.
I enjoy traveling. I'm fortunate to live close to Chicago where it is easy to catch a South Shore train into the city from Northwest Indiana. The Indiana Dunes National Park is another treasure close by. I always enjoy relaxing on the beach near Lake Michigan. I have found a fun site that makes finding tours when I visit different places easy. Tiqets has awesome deals for tours in cities and destinations around the world. A quick note: I have read more and more states and countries are requiring social media companies and other websites to collect ID cards and other information. I use VPNs to keep advertising companies from building a profile on me and to protect myself against hackers when I'm out and about connected to outside WiFi hotspots.
